“One, Two, Buckle My Shoe”
One, two,
Buckle my shoe;
Three, four,
Knock at the door;
Five, six,
Pick up sticks;
Seven, eight,
Lay them straight:
Nine, ten,
A big fat hen.

The children are working wonderfully transferring their knowledge of sounds, letters and early reading skills from Irish to English. We have a wonderful computer programme which supports this work but I would recommend the app if you have access to a tablet at home. It appears to be free of charge and would support the work being done in school.

There are lots of youtube videos to help the children with their sounds, recognising letters, blending, spelling and following rules.
As mentioned before rhyming is a hugely important skill and should be practiced as often as possible. Using the nursery rhymes we have covered as well as stories with rhymes can be very helpful.

The children are learning about the vowels a,e,i,o,u and this handy rhyme for when reading two vowels together.
When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking and says his name!
This week we are reading Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell together. It is a beautiful book with repetition and prediction, perfect to motivate young readers!
Ruairí Rón
Treasa Ní Ailpín
Ruairí Rón
Bhris sé a shrón:
Deora móra –
“Och, ochón!”
Éist, a Ruairí,
Éist, a stór!
Chuir Mamó fios
Ar an Turtar Mór.
Beidh sé anseo
Faoi cheann uair nó dhó,
Is cuirfidh sé cóir ort.
A stóirín ó.
Mo chaitín
Tá caitín agamsa atá bán agus buí,
In aice na tine a bhíonn sé ina luí,
Ní féidir leis léamh, ní féidir leis scríobh,
Ní labhrann sé focal le muintir an tí.
Bímse ar scoil ag obair go dian,
Is mo chaitín sa bhaile ina chodladh faoin ngrian.
