Ag Tosú i nGSCD i 2023 – cúpla nod duit!
Athrú mór agus clochmhíle an-tábhachtach i saol an pháiste is ea tosú ar an mbunscoil. Caithfidh siad dul i dtaithí ar áit nua, mhúinteoir nua, ghnáthamh nua agus chairde nua. Le roinnt bheag ullmhúcháin agus spreagadh uait, áfach, socróidh do pháiste isteach go luath. Tá go leor moltaí iontacha agus taighde déanta ar nithe ginearálta gur féidir a dhéanamh sa bhaile le hullmhú don chéad lá scoile, ach seo cúpla nod bhreise do thuismitheoirí maidir le conas ullmhú don chéad lá i nGaelscoil Chill Dara le Múinteoir Caitríona agus beidh Múinteoir Doireann ag cabhrú leo chomh maith i rith na bliana.
Bí dearfach! Léirigh do do pháiste go bhfuil tú ag tnúth go mór leo tosú ar an scoil. Cabhróidh sé seo leis an bpáiste bheith ar bís faoina bhfuil os a c(h)omhair. Bí muiníneach as an gcinneadh atá déanta agat maidir le hoideachas do pháiste agus meabhraigh duit féin cé na cúiseanna ar roghnaigh tú Gaelscoil Chill Dara.
Cabhróidh do mhuinín agus meon dearfach le do pháiste bheith ar a s(h)uaimhneas agus muiníneach don chéad lá. Tosaíonn an lá scoile ag 9 ach tá fáilte roimh na páistí ó 8.50. Beidh na páistí ag dul abhaile ag 12 a chlog, bí in am ar maidin agus bí in am chun na páistí a bhailiú, cabhraíonn sin go mór leo. Rachaidh siad abhaile ag 1.40 ag tosú Céadaoin 13 Meán Fómhair.
Bí ullamh! Déan cinnte go bhfuil ainm do pháiste ar gach rud a bhaineann leo agus go bhfuil siad in ann gach rud a bhaineann leo a aithint agus a h/ainm más féidir. Cultacha scoile, bain triail astu anois, an bhfuil siad compórdach? an bhfuil siad in ann cótaí bróga, málaí scóile agus málaí lóin a oscailt agus a dhúnadh? Ná déan dearmad lón atá sláintiúil a thabhairt dóibh, ní cheadaítear cnónna, guma coganta, criospaí, deochanna súilíneacha i nGaelscoil Chill Dara agus iarraimid oraibh soláistí a thabhairt ar an Aoine amháin, soláistí na hAoine.
Bí ag caint! Tá sé an-tábhachtach caint go dearfach faoin scoil le do pháiste agus na rudaí éagsúla a bheidh ar siúl aige/aici. Tugann sé seo deis dó/di caint faoi na rudaí a bhfuil siad ar bís fúthu agus aon ní eile atá ag cur imní air/uirthi a phlé. Cuir béim ar na nithe iontacha a bhaineann le saol na scoile: cairde nua , gníomhaíochtaí spraíúla, leabhair, amhráin agus cluichí nua.
Bí ag léamh! Is cuma cén teanga ina bhfuil tú á dhéanamh, tá sé tábhachtach nós na léitheoireachta agus grá do leabhair a chothú trí leabhair a léamh sa bhaile le do pháiste. Sa chaoi seo, beidh dearcadh dearfach ag do pháiste ina leith, agus seachnófar an baol go samhlódh siad go mbaineann léamh (agus scríobh) leis an scoil amháin, nó gur ‘obair’ atá ann.
Bain spraoi agus taitneamh as an léitheoireacht le chéile. Cabhróidh seo le do pháiste scileanna éisteachta, cumarsáide agus airde a fhorbairt. D’fhéadfadh sibh dul chuig an leabharlann le chéile agus ligean don pháiste leabhair dá rogha féin a phiocadh.
Tá leabhair phictiúr an-mhaith freisin le cur le scileanna cainte agus comhrá faoin scoil a spreagadh – is féidir caint faoi na pictiúir go spraíúil le chéile. Glac sealanna – is féidir leis an páiste féin leabhar gan fhocail a léamh, agus is féidir leat sult a bhaint as an scéal a insíonn siad.
Bí ag spraoi! Beidh do pháiste ag foghlaim go leor rudaí nua trí mhodh an tsúgartha ar scoil. Más féidir bualadh agus spraoi le páistí eile, cabhróidh sé leo dul i dtaithí ar bhréagáin a roinnt agus babhtáil ar a chéile. Cabhraíonn an spraoi leo scileanna luaile, cumarsáide, cruthaitheachta agus fiosrachta a fhorbairt agus teacht ar thuiscintí nua ar an saol mórthimpeall orthu. Níl cead ag na páistí bréagán a thógáil ar scoil leo go Gaelscoil Chill Dara, tá an t-uafás bréagán againn sa scoil!
Lorg comhluadar! Má tá aon cheisteanna agat faoin scoil b’fhiú go mór labhairt leis an scoil. Beidh an fhoireann in ann tú a chur ar do chompord. Déan teagmháil le Coiste na dTuistmitheoirí sa scoil agus bí páirteach! Is bealach álainn é le bualadh le tuismitheoirí eile.
Bí ar do shuaimhneas! Tá sé nádúrtha imní a bheith ort maidir le do pháiste tosú ar an scoil mhór. Ach ná déan dearmad go bhfuil an-taithí ag na múinteoirí, na cúntóirí agus foireann uile na scoile ar seo gach bliain. Tabharfar an-aire do do pháiste agus déanfar gach iarracht cabhrú leis/léi socrú isteach go han-luath. Tá go leor cleasanna agus acmhainní ag múinteoirí a úsáideann siad le cinntiú go bhfuil na páistí sona sásta agus rannpháirteach san obair atá ar siúl, agus go dtuigeann siad a chéile.
Starting school is a big milestone for small children. There’s loads of great information out there on how to prepare your child for their first day in school. Here are few tips, to help you and your child feel ready for their first day at Gaelscoil Chill Dara with Múinteoir Caitríona agus Múinteoir Doireann who will also be helping during the first few days.
Be enthusiastic: Show your child that you’re excited about them starting school, this will make the, much more comfirtable. Enrolling them in Gaelscoil Chill Dara was a big decision for you, be confident that it was the right decision and remind yourself of the reason why you choose Gaelscoil Chill Dara for your child and your family.
Your enthusiasm and positivity will help your child especially on the first day. The classes begin at 9am but children are welcome from 8.50. The children will go home at 12 noon until Wednesday 13th September when they will go home at 1.40. Being in time in the morning and being in time to collect your child are very important and really help your child to feel less worried. If your child is very lonely at the thought of leaving you a photograph in their lunch box, a message in their lunch box or a heart drawn on your hand and theirs can help them to feel more settled, as they know they will ‘see’ you throughout the day.
Be prepared! Ensure that your child’s name if on everything which belongs to them, make sure that they recognise their belongings and if possible that they recognise their own name. School uniform, try it out now, is it comfy, can your child open and close their coat, shoes, lunch bag and school bag? Please remember don’t forget that at Gaelscoil Chill Dara nuts including nutella, crisps, chewing gum, fizzy and energy drinks are not allowed and we request that treats are only given on Fridays, treat day Friday. Thank you for supporting our healthy eating recommendations.
Talk together: Talking to your child in any language helps them to improve their communication skills. It’s how we learn to talk in the first place, and it’s how they’ll learn to speak Irish when they start in Gaelscoil Chill Dara, by listening to their teachers and then imitating them.
Talk to your child about all the great things that will happen when they start school school: making new friends, playing games, reading new books, singing songs and learning a whole new language. Give them the chance to tell you what they’re looking forward to or what they might be worried about.
Read together: The very best thing you can do for your child to prepare them for school and when they are in school is to read to them, and foster a love of books and reading. Picture books are a great way to encourage conversation – about school or anything else. Make an adventure of it, take a trip to the library together and allow your child to choose a book for you to read. Lots of excellent recommendations available here.
Learn together: The vast majority of parents whose children go to Gaelscoil Chill Dara don’t have fluent Irish. Show your child that you’re interested in learning along with them and they’ll be motivated to teach you. There’s no better teacher than the child who comes home from school every day, excited to share what they’ve learned. Take a look at www.irishforparents.ie
Don’t worry! It’s natural to be anxious about your child starting school, but don’t forget that the teachers, special needs assistants and all the support staff welcome new children in every year. It’s their job to take the very best care of your child, and to help them to settle and feel happy in school. The staff have all kinds of tricks up their sleeves to do this – songs, body language, gestures, pictures, rhymes, repetition –to make sure that the children can understand them and that they can understand the children. It won’t be long before your child will start using the Irish they pick up in school, and they’ll be keen to teach you as they learn themselves. The children are asked not to bring toys to school, we have a huge selection of toys available for the children to play with at school.
Look for company! If you have any questions about the school, please talk to us, questions, queries, concerns, please talk to the staff and they will put you at your ease. Use the opportunity of starting a new school to become involved in Coiste na dTuismitheoirí, it is a lovely manner in which to get to meet other parents.
The INTO have published a very detailed guide which is available at this link: https://www.into.ie/app/uploads/2019/07/2023_24-Tips-for-Parents-EN.pdf
