Another weekend and we have only seen our wonderful GSCD children online. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff for the wonderful, creative learning activities which they are providing, I would like to thank every one of you for the wonderful work which you are doing at home and mostly all of the wonderful GSCD children – ta sibh ar fheabhas!

Our Competitions were a huge success this week and the winners of the writing competition will be announced on Monday at Scéal an Lae! Múinteoir Courtney, Caleb and Seán won #SAOL.The next competition will be a baking competition and all information will be on Scéal an Lae 6! Keep up all the fabulous work!

We are all thinking of the Rang 2 children and their families today, today in GSCD should be a day of music, excitement and lots of sandwiches as we prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of First Communion tomorrow in the beautiful St. Brigid’s Church on the Curragh with An tAthair Ó Murchú. While we cannot celebrate tomorrow we will celebrate together in the future and in the meantime keep preparing for that special day and have a nice family day tomorrow. Your class teachers have some messages for you.

This weeks tips!

1. Praise and encourage your child when they are finding a question difficult, let them talk through the question with you and explain their ideas.
2. Being quick at Maths does not mean being good at maths, give your child time to think through their questions.
3. Encourage your child to estimate and also to round up and down when helpful – 19+64 – 20 +63 is much more simple
4. Growth mindset – Encourage your child to try new things in Math, slowly but surely and allow them to enjoy their success.
5. Does your child know the moths of the year rhyme
   1. 30 days has September, April, June and November,
      All the rest have 31, Excepting February alone.
      Which only has but 28 days clear, And 29 in each leap year

Haigh, conas atá sibh? Tá súil agam go bhfuil sibh go maith! Táimid go maith go raibh maith agaibh, buíochas le Dia. Bhí foireann na scoile ar bís an tseachtain seo leis an teagmháil ar fad leis na páistí agus libhse a thuismitheoirí, go raibh míle maith agaibh! Idir cártaí agus litreacha, ríomhphoist agus WebEx, Aladdin, Instagram agus Class Dojo, táimid chomh sásta bheith i dteagmháil libh!

How are you? Well, I hope! We are all well, thank God. The GSCD staff were so delighted this week with all the communication with the children and yourselves! Between cards and letters, emails and WebEx, Aladdin, Instagram and Class Dojo, we are so happy to have such wonderful contact with you all. Thank you!

I notice my own guys are a little lonely at home so I will be touching base with some other mums over the weekend to organise a little more contact via phone, I’m not sure my children understand the original role of the telephone ie to conduct a conversation! If your child is a little lonely perhaps there are ways of contacting friends’ parents and allowing the children contact each other by phone which they might enjoy, perhaps to discuss a book or movie, bake a cake, do some art activities?

I love Maths and will focus on Maths for the next few weeks, the children and are doing lots of wonderful Maths activities and using the fabulous websites but there are also lots of maths which can be done at home!

Beidh deis ag na páistí mata a úsáid sa chistin agus iad ag bácáil ( agus ag léamh agus ag scríobh!). Imir cluichí sa bhaile agus déan puzail don Mhata, an bhfuil leabhar Sudoku agat, díslí, cártaí, UNO, cipíní?

Maths can be done in the kitchen, with baking, playing games and puzzles, do you have a Sudoku book, dice for Yatzee, cards, UNO, sticks for puzzles??

Iniata leis seo tá moltaí ón NCCA don Mhata sna naíonáin ach caithfidh mé a rá go bhfuil moltaí ann dúinne go léir! Chomh maith leis sin tá gluais Gaeilge Béarla don Mhata a chur foireann na scoile le chéile dúinn. Tá súil agam go mbeidh sé cabhrach.

Conas atá sibh? Ba mhaith liom a chur i gcuimhne daoibh go bhfuilimid mar fhoireann ag smaoineamh oraibh mar phobal na scoile i gcónaí. Ba mhaith linn ár bpaidreacha agus tacaíocht a sheoladh chuig éinne atá faoi bhrón nó tinn agus ba mhaith linn ár bpaidreacha agus gach dea-ghuí a sheoladh chuig éinne atá ag céiliúradh dea-scéala. Táimid ag smaoineamh go speisialta faoi na páistí i Ranganna 6 nach mbeidh ag freastal ar an scoil arís mar dhaltaí scoile agus iar-scoláirí na scoile atá chomh trí na chéile faoin Ardteist. Ár gcomhairle. tóg lá amháin ag an am agus bain taitneamh as na rudaí go feidir leat, comhairle mo mham, níl in aon rud ach seal. Táimid ag smaoineamh oraibh go léir!

How are you all? I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that we as a school staff are thinking of you all. We would like to send our prayers and support to anyone who is suffering from a loss or illness and also our prayers and good wishes to anyone who is celebrating good news. We are thinking especially of our Rang 6 children who will not return to GSCD as students again and our part pupils who are so upset and unsure with regard to the Leaving Certificate. Our advice for all our students, past and present ( over 1,400 of them!) is to take each day at a time, enjoy what you can and my mum’s advice, this too will pass. We are thinking of you all!

Thug sibh go leor moltaí iontacha dúinn sa suirbhé agus táimid ag glacadh leo agus leanfaimid ar aghaidh ag cur leis na gníomhaíochtaí. Ba mhaith liom mo bhuíochas a ghabháil libh freisin do na focail an-chineálta, táimid an-bhuíoch.

What a week, we now know for certain that the children will not be returning to our classrooms before the summer holidays and we are heartbroken. We  miss them! 

There are lots of questions which I cannot answer at present however I can confirm: We, the school staff will continue to work with and for the children and support you. We will be continuing with the home learning activities and everything else. You gave us lots of wonderful advice and feedback in the survey and we are taking it into account as we plan future activities. I would like to say thank you for your kind words, we really appreciated them.

Sin raite áfach, an rud is tábhachtaí ná go bhfuil na páistí slán sabháilte. Maidir le Searmanais an Chóineartaithe  agus Gaelscoil Chill Dara ag fágáil slán leis na páistí sa scoil ní féidir é sin a dhéanamh faoi láthair. Níl na laethanta speisialta seo curtha ar ceal, tá siad curtha ar athlá. Beidh na Searmanais againn mar phobal scoile agus phobal Dé nuair atá cead againn agus beidh am chomh speisialta againn le chéile. Beidh deis againn slán a fhágáil le chéile i nGaelscoil Chill Dara. Ní féidir liom a rá cathain ach is féidir liom a rá go dtarlóidh sé sa todchaí.

I regret to inform you that we now know for certain that Rang a Sé will not be returning to Gaelscoil Chill Dara as students. To be honest with you, we are heartbroken, these are a fabulous group of very special children and we were all really looking forward to spending the last few months together. However, the most important thing is that the children are all safe and well. With regard to the Confirmation ceremonies and the end of year mass, we cannot celebrate these together at present. These very special events have not been cancelled but postponed. We will celebrate these ceremonies together as a school community when it is safe and permitted to do so and we will have the most wonderful day of celebration, together. We will have the opportunity to say goodbye to our Ranganna 6 in Gaelscoil Chill Dara, however, I cannot say when, but it will happen in the future.

Idir an dá linn eagróímid céiliúradh éigean do na páistí ag deireadh Mheithimh, beimid i dteagmháil  libh faoi na sonraí ag deireadh na míosa seo agus táimid an-bhuíoch do na moltaí agus don chúnamh atá sibh tar éis a thairiscint don scoil cheana féin.

Between now and then we will organise a celebration apart from each other at the end of June, we will be in touch with you regarding details at the end of May, thank you all very much for ideas and offers of support which we have already received.

Leanaigí ar aghaidh ag ullmhú don Chóíneartaú mar beidh lá an-speisialta againn chomh luath agus is féidir! Please continue preparing for the Confirmation at home as we will be celebrating as soon as possible!
