A Mhúinteoir, a chara, 30.03.2020

A Chairde dhíl,

Tá súil agam go raibh sos agaibh thar an deireadh seachtaine agus go bhfuil sibh agus bhur muintir sláintiúil agus slán sabháilte. Mar a luaigh mé ar an Aoine, míle buíochas don obair ar fad le coicís anuas, tá obair na gcapall déanta agaibh.

Bhí deis agam sos a ghlacadh ón obair scoile ag an deireadh seachtaine – tar éis dom Cioclán 26.2020 a léamh agus sular tháinig an teachtaireacht aréir timpeall 5 a chlog ag rá go raibh cead ag múinteoirí dul isteach go dtí an scoil go dtí 6 a chlog tráthnóna inniu.

Maidir le Ciorclán 26/2020, tá sé tabhachtach go bhfuil sé léite agat agus má tá ceist ar bith agat faoi labhair liomsa nó le Caitríona le do thoil ar an gCéadaoin 1.4.2020. Is oth liom a rá nach bhfuil sé ar fáil i nGaeilge go fóill. Tá gach rud ón Roinn faoi láthair ar fáil anseo.

Ceann de na rudaí a rith liom agus mé ag glacadh sosa ná

  • chomh tábhachtach is atá sé, sos a ghlacadh! Ní raibh aon duine againn ag súil leis seo, mar a luaigh mé ar an

    Litir don Fhoireann 20.03.2020

bhíomar iontach gafa chean féin i Mí an Mhárta agus ní raibh ag obair, ag reachtáil scoile agus ag múineadh ón mbaile i bpleananna duine ar bith againn. Dá bharr sin tá sé iontach tábhachtach sos a ghlacadh. Ní féidir doirteadh as cruiscín atá folamh.

  • Tá Ann-Marie Ireland agus KEC ag obair le chéile trí Face book chun Midday breathing space a chur ar fáil gach lá ag 12 a chlog. Is breá liom na smaointe iontacha a bhíonn ag Ann-Marie.
  • Chomh maith leis sin tá comhairleoireacht ar fáil buíochas leis an INTO

    Confidential counselling and support

  • Na páistí – roghnaíomar ar fad dul leis an múinteoireacht nó a bheith ag obair i scoil ar son na bpáistí! Dá bharr sin ba chóir dúinn seasamh siar agus smaoinigh ar na páistí – gach rud a dhéanaimid i nGSCD déanaimid é ar son na páistí – ar mhaithe leis na páistí – an frása is rilata a chuala mé le 21 bliain anuas ó Sheán dePaor agus leanaimid leis sin gach uile lá. Tá sé tábhachtach go ndéanaimid ár ndícheall an nasc láidir atá againn leis na páistí a chothú cé nach bhfuilimid le chéile, trí Aladdin, Class Dojo, RP, Blaganna, RP agus bealaí nua má fheileann sé duit, tá mé chun triail a bhaint as Tionól na Seachtaine a chruthú agus a roinnt leis na páistí amárach le PP agus taifead gutha.
  • Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine – is foireann agus cairde muid i nGSCD, coimeád i dteagmháil lena chéile, fiú taobh amuigh dena cruinnithe a bhíonn againn ar líne, tabhair aire dá chéile agus mar a déirimid gach lá – Bí Cineálta i gcónaí, leat féin agus le daoine eile. Seo smaointe a roinneamar leis na páistí i Mí na Nollag,b’fhéidir go gcuirfidh mé roinnt de na moltaí sa chéad bhileog eile dena gníomhaíochtaí sa bhaile!
  • Roinn sibh eolas den scoth leis na tuismitheoirí ar an Aoine maidir le
    • cathain a bheadh tú i dteagmháil,
    • cad a bheadh ar siúl agat,
    • conas a bheidh tú i dteagmháil leo agus conas go feidir leo teagmháil a dhéanamh leat- cén áit,
    • cé  eile a bheadh i dteagmháil leo
    • Cén fáth go bhfuilimid i dteagmháil leis na páistí – ar mhaith leis na bpáistí – is breá linn iad! is múinteoirí muid agus táimid anseo le tacú agus le treorú agus ár ndícheall a dhéanamh chun é sin a dhéanamh.
    • Agus tá sé tábnhachtach go mbeadh an t-eolas céanna againne eadrainne agus roinnfidh mé an t-eolas libh ag an gcruinniú ar zoom ag 1 a chlog.
  • Bí solúbtha – beidh gach lá difirúil agus bí ullamh – níl a fhios againn cad atá ag tarlú ó lá go lá ach beimid ar fad lé chéile arís chomh luath agus is féidir!
  • Déan do dhícheall agus is leor é sin!

Ag smaoineamh oraibh go léir agus ag súil go mór le bheith ar ais sa seomra foirne le chéile arís go luath!

Niamh x

PEPELT Mini-Lessons: Overview

ImagineNation

  1. I love books and believe that giving children the skills required to read and a love for reading is one of the most important jobs I have as an educator. Books open doors to other worlds, they give us the opportunity to learn so much, understand so many people and explore other times all from the where you are right now. As a child I watched my father read and re read books ( something I still have not mastered) and my sister and I spent hours upon hours reading under our duvets with flash lights when lights had been turned off, as an adult reading is still one of my favourite pastimes and once I have a book to read it is very difficult to get me to focus on anything else. I spent yesterday going through lots of the books in our home and trying to convince my 3 boys ( unsuccessfully) to read something during the Easter holidays, my daughter and I spent most of the time reading ourselves, so my husband came home to us surrounded by a huge pile of books and no dinner. Today I will make the dinner before I sit down tto read! Something I noticed was the lovely way in which so many of the books which were gifted to us over the years had little messages on them, it brought me back to different times and memories of many who are no longer with us but who also gave us the gift of a love for reading, so note to myself from now on when I give a gift of a book I will write a little note too!
  2. If you are reading at home with or alongside your children enjoy the experience, discuss the books if you wish, like a book club but mostly enjoy the experience, my cocooning mum is zooming in and out of her many book clubs and loving her contact with her book club friends!
  3. If you would like some advice on how to use the books in a teacher manner, I found some wonderful advice from the pdst in the Independent 6.04.2020.
  4. for younger children● Ask your child to show you where to start reading – if they’re not sure, gently guide their attention to the text at the top left hand side of the page.● Tell your child about the full stop and what it means – occasionally give them the job of showing you where to stop for breath (understanding punctuation is one of the basic concepts about print that will support later success).● Give your child the job of page turner as this helps develop simple motor skills and confidence in book handling.

for all children

● Let your child choose the story they want to read or have read to them. Providing choice is a great way to keep your child interested and engaged in reading. It can also be a nice experience to share your favourite books from childhood.

● Have a chat about the cover and the blurb on the back. Share your ideas and thoughts and make predictions with your child using clues from the cover including the title and the illustrations.

● Read with expression: use different voices for the various characters or share the characters between yourself and your child/children. A dramatic reading can be a fun way to read a book as a family.

● Pause and discuss the pictures, the characters, the unfolding story line; but don’t slow down so much that the flow of the story is interrupted.

● Read for an audience: Encourage children to read to younger siblings or record your child reading a familiar story to send as a video to a friend or relative (this is a nice one to send on to grandparents who may be missing their grandchildren).

● Ask open-ended questions; questions to which there is no right or wrong answer, but which stimulate thinking, talk and discussion. ”I wonder” questions can be thought-provoking.

● When reading a simple story in English, encourage your child to share any words they know in the story as Gaeilge (or in another language that they may speak).

● Encourage your child to make connections with the book. They may be able to connect the story to some aspect of their own life or another book.

● Encourage your child to think about the characters, their feelings, why they might have acted the way they did and any changes they would make to the story. By practicing this aloud, you are cultivating your child’s imagination.

● Art is a great way for children to engage with their reading. Children can draw pictures of their favourite characters or part of a story.

● With younger or developing readers, one good read deserves another. Re-reading a book/story several times develops fluency and faster processing of words. Think of it like practicing a piece of music.

A thuismitheoirí, a chairde,

Tá súil agam go bhfuil sibhse, na páistí agus do mhuintir ar fad go maith agus bhfuil spion maith oraibh. Tuigim go tréimhse dúshlánach í seo dúinn go léir agus tá mé ag déanamh teagmhála libh inniu ag súil le tacacíocht agus treoir a thabhairt maidir le oideachas do pháiste sna seachtainí atá romhainn.

I hope you, the children and your families are all all well and in good spirits. I understand that this these are challenging times and I am contacting you today to offer some guidance and reassurance with regard to your child’s education over the next few weeks.

Maidir leis na páistí agus an obair scoile, ná déan dearmad go bhfuil páistí ( agus muidne!) ag foghlaim i gcónaí, ní ghá dóibh a bheith ag suí ag baint úsáide as leabhar scoile.Tá go leor oibre déanta againn ar scoil i mbliana cheana féin. Táimid ag roinnt eolais libh ach táimid ag iarraidh tacú libh, nílimid ag iarraidh cur leis an mbrú atá oraibh. NB

With regard to our GSCD children and their school work, this is a learning curve for ALL of us! Children, as well as adults, learn not only when they are sitting working from books, but often much more so, when they are engaged in activities, think of learning to drive a car! So much work has already been covered by the teachers this year. We are sharing our information and ideas with you, to support you all, during this challenging time, we are not aiming to add to the pressure at all. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT to all of GSCD staff.

Braitheann an obair ar aois na bpáistí, déan do dhícheall clár ama a chruthú don lá, le roinnt ama ag suí ag díriú ar obair acadúil ( R6 90 nóim), agus am eile a chaitheamh ag baint suilt as an aer úr, ag léamh, ag cabhrú leis an obair atá le déanamh agaibh mar chlann, ag seinnt ceoil, ag bácail, ag péinteáil, ag  déanamh aclaíochta, ag spraoi le lego, cluichí boird, agus ag dul i dteagmháil ar an bhfón le cairde agus daoine speisialta eile.

The amount of time and the level of work to be covered totally depends on each child and their age and your family situation. Try and develop a timetable that works for you and your family, with a certain short amount of time focusing on academic work (max 1 hour30min R6) and then other time for reading for pleasure, enjoying the fresh air, helping with the house and outdoor work, playing and listening to music, painting, baking, exercising, lego, board games,  and making phone calls to friends and other special people.

An tseachtain seo caite roinn na múinteoirí obair libh do na páistí ar fad agus roinn mé naisc libh don Ghaeilge go háirithe, tá súil agam go raibh an obair agus na naisc úsáideach. Ar bhain na páistí taitneamh as na

Gníomhaíochtaí sa Bhaile 18.03.2020

Tá súil agam gur bhain, beidh bileog eile an tseachtain seo chugainn!

Last week the teachers shared some nice school work activities with you and I shared some links, especially for the Irish language. I hope that they were useful and that the children enjoyed the activities page, there will be another one next week.

Tá foireann na scoile ar fad ag obair go dian agus beidh na múinteoirí i dteagmháil libh ar ball ach idir an dá linn ba mhaith liom naisc a roinnt libh inniu maidir le suíomh eile atá go maith don Ghaeilge Léigh leat! Tá go leor rudaí éagsúla ar fáil ann! Is aoibhinn liomsa éisteacht leis na dánta! Coimeád súil ar Instagram na Scoile um eolas a fháil faoi chomórtais agus gníomhachtaí atá ar siúl gach lá!

The school staff are all working very hard at the moment and will be in touch with you in the near future, until then I would like to recommend one more link, Léigh leat, a wonderful site with a selection of Irish language activities. My favourite part is where you can listen to the poems. There area also daily recommendation on the school instagram account regarding competitions and other fun activities.

A chairde, níos tábhachtaí ná aon rud eile, ba mhaith liom mo bheannachtaí a chur chugaibh go léir, agus go háirithe chuig páistí na scoile, ‘sé an rud is tábhachtaí faoi láthair domsa ná go mbeadh sibhse ar fad slán sabháilte agus nuair a fhillimid ar an scoil is féidir linn díriú ar an obair scoile arís. Tá nasc anseo daoibh, ba bhreá liom go líomfaidh sibh an suirbhé le cabhrú linn, cabhrú libh!

A Chairde, more importantly than anything else at this time, I would like to send you all my best wishes, especially to all of our GSCD kiddies. The most important thing for me is that you are all safe and healthy and we will catch up on the school work in no time when we return. There is a link here to a quick survey to help us to support you most effectively.

Beidh na múinteoirí i dteagmháil libh go luath agus is fada liom go mbeidh mé na páistí ar ais linn go luath!

The teachers will be in touch soon and I am really looking to forward to  having all ourr children back at school as soon as possible!

Le gach dea-ghuí,

Príomhoide Niamh
