Motivating Handwriting Activities
A Chairde, Hopefully, you’ll find some motivating handwriting activities that will help your children pick up that pencil and start writing!
Collect crayons, chalk, pencils, pens, markers, pages, envelopes, post-its, fancy paper ( if it still exists!) labels, glue, stars, glitter etc.
Write: ( Don’t forget it will also support reading) Motivation to write!
Names – place settings, labels, lists, cards, postcards, thank you cards, birthday cards, create comics, stories, books, newspaper articles, write about a picture/photo/ favourite teddy. Write recipes, poems, song titles. Create menu for dinner, prices for a shop, rules for favourite games, instructions, have a day/ hour of no talking only writing for communication. Draw placemats for the dinner table.
Perhaps play some nice classical music in the background to make it a relaxing activity.
For a multisensory approach letters could be written in sand, soap, shaving foam, finger paints etc.
Cutting and gluing, tracing, join the dots, placing pegs arouns a bowl, using a tweezers to pick up pieces of rice and colouring in are also wonderful activities for improving fine motor skills.
